Dave Volk – Short Bio: Dave Volk was born and raised in Mitchell, SD, and attended Notre Dame grade school and high school. He went to college at Northern University in Aberdeen, SD and graduated in 1969. While in college he was a Field Representative for Congressman Ben Reifel. He was drafted in 1969 and spent 2 years in the Army and served as a combat photographer with 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and Bronze Star. He was later appointed by President Ronald Reagan as Director of Vietnam Veteran’s Leadership Program in SD. In 1972 he was elected State Treasurer of South Dakota, the youngest person in the state’s history to win statewide office. He was re-elected four times. He joined Governor Janklow’s cabinet in 1994 as Secretary of Commerce and Regulation. Volk has had another book published: “DRAFTEE: A High School Teacher Goes To War,” www.drafteegoestowar.com . |
