Work Begins on New Book
Rough drafts are in the works for the fourth book in the "Mystery" book series.  This one will cover the incredible history of pheasants in South Dakota and the journey they made to come to this land from far away China.
 
Mystery of the Tree Rings wins National Award

Mystery of the Tree Rings wins a Silver Medal at the Independant Publishers.  Following in the footsteps of Volk and Meierhenry's first book, "Mystery of the Round Rocks" which won a Bronze Medal, "Mystery of the Tree Rings" has recieved a Silver Medal.  Both books won in the Best Regional Children's Fiction category.

New Book - Mystery of the Maize

The Mystery of the MaizeMeierhenry and Volk's third book "Mystery of the Maize" will be released in the spring of this year and will again feature the twins of Max and Hannah who go on another adventure of discovery with their granfather to learn about the history of maize in South Dakota.  The book has a new illustrator, Marty Two Bulls, Sr.<

Mystery of the Round Rocks wins national award PDF Print E-mail

SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota.

 

”Mystery of the Round Rocks” a children’s book authored by David Volk and Mark Meierhenry and illustrated by Jason Folkerts recently received a national book award from the Independent Publisher organization.

 

The book, which is about the early geographical history of South Dakota, received the Bronze Medal in the category of ‘Best Regional Fiction for the Mid-West’.

 

Meierhenry and Volk said they were delighted with the award especially since it stresses “the early beginnings of South Dakota and the great contribution our forefathers gave to this state.”

 

The Independent Publisher’s contest drew over 3,175 entries from 49 states, 9 Canadian provinces and 16 countries.

 

Additionally, “Mystery of the Round Rocks” (www.sdkidsbooks.com) and David Volk’s other book “Draftee:   A High School Teacher Goes To War” (www.drafteegoestowar.com)  were recently featured at Augustana College’s Center for Western Studies, Dakota Conference.

 

Volk and Meierhenry’s second book “Mystery of the Tree Rings” will debut in August.   This book is about a 762 year-old tree located in the Black Hills.
